Rufus would have been somewhere between amused and pissed off if Cloud had asked him. Amused due to the fact it would show Cloud had a backbone, pissed because he rather hated the fact everyone assumed his life was easy, even if he did sometimes use that assumption for his own purposes and to his own advantage.
Mostly, though, there was a part of him who truly disliked that assumption, and that he had no real way to deny it without showing the one thing he had been trained and berated not to show; weakness. Or what his father considered weakness.
That line of thought was one Cloud would probably never be privy to, and so he would only get the results of everything Rufus had learned, even the gem he was about to deliver; which was also a test of who Cloud was.
